For the Sake of Posterity

As as a follow up to yesterday's post about the scariest thing I've ever seen, I am now posting the scariest thing YOU will ever see... ME without makeup. (Just keep your eyes on the galley I'm holding and I don't think you'll suffer from permanent eye damage. I hope.)

My eyes need therapy!

Whatever, we're Asian. We're gonna look like this for the next few decades until we suddenly turn old.

Ohhhh I finally get your book cover! I've always thought it was gorgeous as heck, but I was like, "Is that flower stuck on to EVERY copy? How does it not get broken off?"

Yeah I'm pretty myopic.

M Kathy - Thanks!!! Yes, I did just graduate from HS...22 years ago. Okay, now I feel old. LOL.

Kate - Haha! Yup, my editor sent me 5. Sorry about the eyes! I shall send you some drops for them. Hehe

Diane - Thank you!!! :D

Janel - Thank you!!! *turns up the music and joins the happy dance*

Kathy - Thank you so much! *gets you some punch after all the happy dancing* :D

Serendipity - Thanks!! I cut it right after I had the official photo for the book taken. I needed a change when I started on the second book. Weird, right? Haha!

Malen - Thank you! Yes, it does feel great to finally hold it in my hands :D

Jessica - Thanks!!! I resisted the urge to hide behind it when my hubby took the photo. LOL.

Connie - Thanks!! It feels sooo SURREAL :D

MuMuGB - Thanks!! Don't be fooled - it's just good lighting. Hehe :D

Joy - Thank you!!! (getting all that make up off after the official "author photo" shoot took AGES. LOL)

Christina - Haha! Thank goodness this is just a photo -- if it were a video, you would see that my hands are TREMBLING :D

Whispering Writer - Awww...thank you. The designer who made the cover is AMAZING :D

Julie - Thank you sooooo much! I was really hesitant about posting it, but I figured I needed to do it in the spirit of truly chronicling this crazy journey :D

Susan - Thanks!!! It's going to be hard to keep from hugging them the whole day. Haha!

Elaine - Thank you!!! My cheeks still hurt from smiling so much. Haha! :D

Sophia - Hahahahaha! Too funny!!! But don't worry. You're not alone. I actually asked my editor the same thing when I first saw the cover. LOL.

How disappointing! You weren't scary at ALL!! ;) It takes makeup artists 45 minutes to give actors that good of a no-makeup look! Great picture, Sam. :)

Samantha Sotto said...

Haha! Thanks, Kenya! I'll email you a pic of myself pre-coffee. Let it not be said that I don't deliver on my promises ;-)

Jennifer Hillier said...

Okay, first, you are gorgeous without makeup!

And second, YAY on the galleys! They're so pretty!

Samantha Sotto said...

Aww...thanks, my dear :D Hey, when are we going to see YOUR cover? Can't wait!

Irene said...

Scary??? Not at all, Samantha. Your face is very refreshing to look at! Lovely photo :-)

I cannot comment on the picture because I just saw you earlier that afternoon. Haha. I remember that top! So excited about the galleys that you have. Will you frame 1? Donate another to the Heritage Library? What does 1 do with extra galleys?

Cathy Olliffe-Webster said...

Pfffft- who needs make-up? Certainly not you.

Tina L. Hook said...

Oh, you are gorgeous. And what could be better than holding your published book?

Dafeenah said...

It must feel amazing to hold your book in your hands. YOu look so much younger with shorter hair. I almost didn't recognize you from your profile pic. It's like two different people!Congrats on the book!

Hi and Congrats on your book! :)

C.M. Villani said...

Goodness gracious, girl! You're so nervous that you're missing the fun part of the ride! You made it, Sam! You got published...REVEL IN IT!!!

Carpe Diem and all that Jazz.

Donea Lee said...

Oh, you look great! (I'm not sure I even look like the same person without makeup...) Isn't it wonderful to have your book in hand? So happy for you! :)

Samantha Sotto said...

Irene - You're too kind. Thank you! :)

OCMom - Haha! I will put them in a time capsule in case the Mayans were right about 2012.

Cathy - Aww...thank you. It was done in the spirit of full disclosure. LOL :D

Florida Girl - Holding the book for the first time felt EXACTLY like the first time I felt held my kids - except that I wasn't afraid to break it. Hehe. :D

Dafeenah - Thanks! I cut my hair right after the profile photo was taken. I'm thinking of keeping it short for a while. :D

Jade - *waves* Thank you! :D

Christina - Can you email me a whack on the head? I need it ;-)

Donea - Thanks!!! It does feel A-mazing...in a crazy-holy cow-omg-omg-this-is-really-happening kind of way :D

C.M. Villani said...

Will do. :D

You look great with your book. I'm jealous. Me, with my book? I looked like a total retard. Cameras hate me.

Congrats on getting to hold your book!

Stephanie Faris said...

I love the cover! It's funny -- when I blogged about the announcement that I'd landed an agent, my photo with the celebratory glass of champagne was sans makeup...and I asked people to ignore that, too! Must be a tradition.

Cathy K said...

Hurraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! I'm thrilled for you. You and your astonishingly young, lovely, make-up-less face. Truly, at first glance I thought it was one of your kids, a teenage daughter maybe...

DEZMOND said...

oooh, Samantha, that's such a lovely book cover and very unique and creative!

Samantha Sotto said...

Christina - Got it. Thanks! I needed that. *rubs back of head* ;-)

Angel011 - Oh, come on! I don't believe that! *runs to your blog to look for your photos and prove you wrong* :)

Stephanie - Haha! Indeed! It's hard to apply mascara when you're too busy jumping up and down, right? :D

Cathy - Teenager? Haha! I wish!!! :D

Dezmond - Thank you! All the credit goes to my editor and the book designer who whipped it up :D

C. N. Nevets said...

Congratulations! That's a fantastic moment, and a brilliant cover. You must be busting out of your skin!

KLZ said...

Um, I'm officially 100% jealous of you.

Samantha Sotto said...

C.N. -Thank you! I've already burst and have made quite a mess on my wall. I hope I don't leave a stain ;-)

KLZ - LOL. Crazy girl :D

DEZMOND said...

by the way, I'm a book translator, and my house sometimes works with RandomHouse, so who knows, maybe I will one day end up translating this lovely book of yours, since it seems like something readers in my country would like ;)

Samantha Sotto said...

Oh, wow! How cool would that be? :D

angel011 said...

Samantha, the picture you're looking for is on my blog in Serbian. Here: http://ivanamilakovic.blogspot.com/2010/10/stigla-knjiga.html

Aha! I've just been there. I love being RIGHT. GREAT PHOTO, my friend! :D

Cathy K said...

Sophia the Writer - LOL, I wondered the very same thing about those lovely yellow flowers! From the equally myopic Cathy the writer...
